DRose Retires
Derrick Rose, the former NBA MVP, announced his retirement on social media on Thursday, calling it a career.
Rose, who came out of Memphis as the first overall choice in 2008, rose to prominence in the NBA quite fast. After being selected as the 22-year-old MVP in 2011, he was awarded Rookie of the Year and became the youngest MVP in league history.
Regretfully, Rose's career was marred by injuries; he played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies, in addition to his native Chicago Bulls. His most notable injury was an ACL rupture sustained during the 2012 postseason.
The 35-year-old expressed gratitude to the sport for exposing him to experiences beyond his wildest dreams, experiences that shaped the man he is today, both on and off the court.
He averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds throughout his career.
