Mets Land Soto

According to reports, Juan Soto signed a record 15-year contract for $765 million with the Mets on Sunday to kick off the Winter Meetings, a move that will have an impact on not only MLB but the whole global sports scene.

The agreement supersedes the $700 million, 15-year contract that Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers last winter, which featured sizable deferrals. MLB rated that agreement at $460 million in present-day value because of the deferrals.

With Soto, 26, joining Francisco Lindor in the order, the Mets will have a franchise cornerstone who can compete with, if not outperform, any other 1-2 duo in baseball.

The Yankees, for whom Soto linked up with Aaron Judge to help lead the franchise to the World Series for the first time since 2009, had a similar dynamic last season.

Soto hit.288/.419/.569 last season, including a career-high 41 home runs with the Yankees. Soto arrived into the organization last year at the Winter Meetings when he was traded from the Padres (with Trent Grisham) for Michael King, Kyle Higashioka, Jhony Brito, Drew Thorpe and Randy Vasquez.
